Unacceptable

The Republicans first day in office over at the House is a screaming disappointment.

THIS would be the moment to let your Congressman know that you are watching.  Call, write, email, smoke signal.... whatever.  Just let them know The People are watching.  If they fail here, its all over but the gunshot.

Disappointing as it may be, the Left is absolutely correct in their assessment of this first day.

I sincerely hope that this is not just more of the same... but I am bitterly disappointed at the moment.  The time for half-truths and half-measures has passed.

------------------------------------------

Please read this very intelligent piece on Chapter 9 Municipal Bankruptcy.  I find it amusing that some think that these issues will be settled by a Judge in a Court of Law.  No such luck for you Activist Jurist enthusiasts.  In the end, what will happen is what happens to many debts in the private sector - they simply won't be paid; there will be a great hew and cry, some gnashing of teeth, and a couple of circle jerks... and then they still won't be paid.

"You can't get blood from a stone."

-----------------------------------------------

Oil is NOT an easy trade here.  But on any pull back I want to be long Dec 12 Futures, and let's hope the curve comes in with the front month... Oil is at risk to the equity market, just like every other commodity.

Look at the chart of the Baltic Dry Goods Index and the Railfax report.  Goods have to be transported.  The volume of goods shipped and the price commanded by the shippers reflect what is going on in the real economy.

----------------------------------------------

The incomprenhensiable position of the "Progressives" regarding the U.S. Constitution should be glaring to the American people on this day.

All of America's elected representatives and appointees draw their authority FROM THE CONSTITUTION IN ITS ENTIRETY.  You don't get to edit or omit portions that might be offensive to the descendants of slaves or of women who did not have the vote until 1920.  That's what we have the amendment process for.

Ladies and Gentlemen of both houses.  This is our history and the basis for all of our law.  You, and we, are going to have to live with ALL of the document... warts, hair and all.  How dare you exercise authority granted you by an instrument you then reject?

Yes, Senator Schumer, the SCOTUS does have the FINAL say on what is Constitutional, and Congress should have THE FIRST SAY AND NOT PASS LAWS THAT ARE IN OBVIOUS CONTRADICTION OF THE INTENT OF THE FOUNDERS.  Further my dear Senator, your group's brilliantly executed strategy of flooding the Law Schools and the Courts with activist Jurists has run its course, Thank G-D.

FDR should rot for his contributions in the matter.  Members of the Lucky-Sperm-Club such as FDR and JFK are very, very dangerous in high office... as FDR famously quiped they seem to possess "first-rate temperaments and second-rate intellects"... and are burdened with the guilt that comes from privileged circumstances at birth.

Thank goodness we were spared Teddy Kennedy.

What is the problem Jeffers? The federal fiscal yr starts on Oct 1. The continuing budget passes in December pushes out the dems part of this budget to 5 months. That is why the 60 billion is proportional to the amount of reductions. I never thought it would be easy. They control one/half of one branch and the Supreme Court kind of. Two much deference to case law and not the constitution. You need control of the senate, house and presidency to really get anything done. As for the health vote, it tells you that is one of their priorities. They got lots of donations to fight bill. It is the pragmatic thing to give their direction on a symbolic vote.

Sorry, Dextred... but I am a cynic on any political solutions at this point. It seems that the political process(on both sides) seems aimed only at facilitating looting of the crashing current system.

Also- "You need control of the senate, house and presidency to really get anything done." We have had nothing but disasters from Washington when one party controls the whole process.

Just look at the 2000-2008 period when the Repubs had control- it was one unmitigated disaster after another- from TARP to Prescription Drug Bill to institutionalizing torture to doubling the national debt. One long disaster and it's the same with the Dems 2006-08.

I hate to say it but having a paralyzed Washington seems to be the best outcome for the average US citizen.

BEST, Marshall

Since I have told everyone about how concentrated Federal spending is (80% of Federal spending, in normal times, is in 5 wildly popular program that will never be seriously cut: S Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Interest and Defense), you all knew long ago that the Tea Partiers/Republicans/Libertarians were blowing smoke the whole time about what they could really do about "less government/less taxes/less deficit/less debt." They managed to fool the entire country that they could possibly do anything. The American public's ignorance on how the Federal dollars are spent played right into their hands. I'm surprised by Jeffer's indignation. We democrats all saw the Tea Party empty promises a mile away. Anyone who could read and count did.

bur,

What is your point. You don't talk solutions, just smart ass bullshit. At least the more fiscally responsible know this can't last and point it out. What does the left do? Obama spent 3 trillon dollars over our revenue in 2 yrs. Give me some answers. What should we do, just sit here while the nation goes bankrupt.
You don't make sense and reinforce my anger at the stupidity of the left. Your a lost sheep, with no gouged eyes and you don't know your masters voice. Good luck.

Marshall,

I agree with you. I wish we could wise up, I suppose many in rome, britain, etc felt the same way we do about this. YOu can see the train coming, but your foot is stuck in the track.

OK first off the Republicans did not have total control from 2000 - 2008. If I remember right the Dems had control of the House from 2000 - 2002 and then again from 2006 - 2008 didn't they?

I maybe wrong about 2000 - 2002, but Pelosi was speaker for two congresses.

Secondly, entitlement spending has increased almost 45% in the last two years. This 80% of spending crap is BS (as has been proven before). The part of the budget which cannot be reduced which is about two trillion (off the top of my head it maybe more or less by a bit) is not on the table. As I understand it there is an amount which cannot be touched without going back and repealing or changing previous legislation, so it cannot be done anytime soon.

The discretionary spending is where the battle will be and this is what has grown in the neighborhood of two trillion under Obummer in two years.

I haven't read the linked articles yet (or heard any news today actually) but the first battle will be over the budget ceiling and if the incoming repubs use it to force the golfer in chief to cut back on the discretionary spending then we are on our way. If they blow it or cave then I will admit the gig is up and a collapse is assured.

Dextred1 said...

PP,

They had senate from 2000-2002 and house from 2006-2010. YOur right about the discretionary spending. This was all the bailouts, 20-80% jumps in all sorts of departments, stimulus package. Bur just runs his mouth because that is all he knows how to do. If he had a ethical bone in his body he would admit this. But that is like asking pelosi to admit the health care bill would actually increase the debt. They baked in 50% cuts in doctors reinbursments by 2020. HAHAHAHAHHAHA, who beleives they will cut doctors pay? If they do no doctors will provide service for government plans. Anyways back in fantasy land bur thinks we can pay out all the promised bennies and run up a 100 trillion dollar debt if we just get those rich guys. HAHAHAHHAHAHA. What do you expect for someone whose mouth is attached to the tit of the state. What's that master, you want to destroy the republic, oh goody as long as I get my 100,000 salary and my retirement. I would gladly sell my soul for money. What's that you say, bend over so we can put it to you, oh okay great.

PioneerPreppy said...

OK after reading the pertinent articles the 60 billion number is only for this fiscal year and they are standing by the 100 billion number for the legislative year. I believe there is some progressive twisting going on in the reporting.

I really didn't read anything to suggest to me their commitment has changed or that the new members are back peddling. YET.

The health care spin is the dems pointing out that losing the pre-paid money for their bill will add to the deficit. It's a red herring pure and simple as if Congress defunds other aspects of it they can offset the costs and end up with a net gain overall. This just won't happen together so will show as an increase at first.

Liberal/progressive spin is all that is and we will see alot more of that. It won't go away ever just like Bur's 80% BS.

Please! The Republicans reading the Constitution? Thats like WC Fields reading the Bible on his deathbed

Thank you!!! I knew that over the full eight years the repubs only had control of all three for two legislative terms or four years total.

Honestly we need to give these guys time. The incoming freshmen are at a big disadvantage and they are going to get out flanked over and over again until they learn.

This fight is for the long term and as voters we may have to learn a few things ourselves to get it right in the end.

Dextred1 said...

Yeah forgot Pelosi healthcare thing, heard her taking about this in the morning. 10 years of paying for 5 yrs of bennies. I truly believe she is just an Idiot being run by other more intelligent lefties if that is even possible. Kind of an oxymoron huh.

Dextred1 said...

Anon,

Yeah it is not like they stand for limited constitutional government!!!!!! WTF are you talking about. GO back in your hole. At least they are trying. I mean we could all sit around, smoke dope, live off the state and that would be fine for the left. Oh yeah and get free government medical care. OH yeah, what a caring, giving nation we are.

I prefer not to bother with Constitutional high-mindedness or conspiracy theories. The public wants the spending. Those with means (who have done really well in American the last 30 years) have to pay the taxes. Simple.

Once there was a mountain people thought to be rich in treasure, with strong work ethics and enlightened thoughts.

In the valley below were a people who languished and wished for effortless food, shelter and wealth.

The valley people demanded the mountain people pay with the riches hidden in that lofty realm. To which the mountain people agreed to share "all the secrets of the mountain and the riches buried there".

Outraged the valley people cried to take the mountain wealth with judicial activism, community organizing and entitlement spending. Tax them!! was the rallying cry.

And so after they destroyed the mountain people and there was nothing left to flow down the hillside to the valley below.

The valley and it's people got their just reward.

The Constitution was not written by God. And just because it doesn't say "A" does not mean that the public, wanting "B", isn't right. Stop hiding behind a 235 year-old document written back when a black man was 2/3rds human, as specified so LOUDLY in the beginning of the U.S. Constitution.

The people want spending on the big 5, regardless of the present Constitutional provisions, and the rich are gonna run out of politicians to bribe one of these days. To be sure the multi-billionaires keep their low taxes and big mansions, you are going to end up ruining the country, with no middle class to moderate things, and then EVERYONE gets screwed.

Gold as currency:
I know this is from the last thread but…

In the past Spain found hundreds of boatloads of gold in the New World and look at them now. Even at the time of the discovery it didn’t help the average Spaniard much, the main effect seems to have been inflation. Spain was already a superpower when it discovered the gold; however it seems to me that the discovery kept Spain from developing like the other European powers during the renaissance. Ambitious and ingenuitive Spaniards preferred military adventure to labor or creativity since that was where the money was and as a society they didn’t need to produce much since they could buy what they needed abroad. They did however develop an artisan class producing some of the finest swords in the world around Toledo, etc.

There are some strong parallels to us in the wake of Breton Woods, and Benton Woods II. We exited WWII as the strongest nation on earth and look at us now. The only businesses that are doing well are small artisan shops catering to our plutocrat class. Easy money has been as destructive to us as gold was to Spain or oil to any of the OPEC countries.

Ultimately if enough gold is found someplace then gold becomes an industrial metal. Unlike fiat currencies it has unique properties that utterly nothing else can match. It could even trade at parity with silver, as it has in the distant past. However a gold find on that level is much less likely than a major ink find by Ben Bernanke, which is the biggest thing gold has going for it.

Incidentally a gold find on that scale would probably have to come from the seas. The oceans have enormous quantities of gold suspended in solution, about 9 times what has been mined to date. Good luck harvesting it though; or getting a monopoly on it if you do figure out how to harvest it.

Someday I may explain how I formulated that theory. Till then I think his last post once again shows what the real barrier is.

I sometimes do wonder why most people can look back and see an outrageous claim, or unjust act against their ancestors and be glad times have changed and some are just unable to.

Hell somewhere around here I have a newspaper clipping from Boston during the mid 1800's exclaiming Irishmen and Dogs need not apply for a job. I have a book given to me by a Polish immigrant who was Jewish and survived the death camps. He even told me a few things about it before he died and he didn't hate because of his experience.

In the first article Greg linked I believe it mentioned how Jesse Jackson wanted the original first amendment read. He, like Bur are so filled with hate that they cannot see beyond skin color. White man = evil, document written by white men means nothing.

Personally I can see beyond such things. I would never hold a person of Erbor ancestry accountable for the atrocities of the Zulu. Even if I was inclined to hold a Zulu accountable for the crimes of his father's father.

Far too many people have written the Constitution off as unimportant because of race, white guilt or what have you.

When one side operates by rules and the other doesn't what happens?

PioneerPreppy said...

For the record I think Bur is not what he claims and that he is a racist. I do not think he is an idiot. Far from it in fact.

Also Dex's ability to recall landmark court cases relevant to the discussions at hand is nothing short of pure genius. He also has a remarkable grasp of historical American political facts and how they connect that would put a few Phd's I know to shame. The speed of his replies and the sometimes obscure facts he mentions are enough to prove to me it goes beyond mere google searches.

As it turns out my studies leaned more towards social, sectional and migration movements. So we go with what we know I guess.

I dont sit and whine about things that aren't going to happen. The only reason things are NOT happening as I've detailed them yet is because we have found gullible Chinese, Japanese and Americans to buy our bonds and float our deficit. When they no longer will buy, my plan becomes the default plan (tax the rich). Japan just today said that, to confront their problems, they are going to raise taxes. It's the wrong plan for them, but that is what they are doing.

Anyone contradicting what I am suggesting .. their other plan(s) involves, in some way, the breakup of the U.S., Mad Max world, gold, guns, bond default, and sitting there reading the Constitution until they are blue in the face. :)

Bur,

You are on the same slippery slope that all socialist governments eventually follow.

1. There is no God or higher power.

2. I am the Highest Power.

3. I can make any decision I believe serves the common good.

4. The People are to stupid to govern themselves, there I may use any means possible to serve the common good.

4. The common good is the ultimate good, and the individual may be sacrificed in it's name.

Without a sound moral basis we run amok. Socialism is a moral equivocation. It is bound to run amok. Your line of thinking brought us Hitler, Tito, Stalin, Mao, Kim Jung Il, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein and a whole additional laundry list of Socialist murderers who would burn any of us in a heartbeat for the common good. These knuckle heads today are not one bit different. They just haven't been pushed to desperation, yet. I'd prefer they get sent packing in election after election, so they never get the chance.

I'll admit abundant credit and cheap energy allowed the party in the First World to go on for the last 40 years at least, but there are options for the future. We don't need half the stuff we've all acquired anyway.

A Quaker in a Strange Land said...

That is the final analysis, isn't it?

What the the Left and RINO's don't get is that folks in the Libertarian camp freely admit that we don't have all of the answers... that it is best for each of us to come to that conclusion on its own... and never, ever to use government FORCE to make decisions for people that Natural Law says belongs to the individual.

The Left desperately needs the abortion debate in order to keep their constituents on their side of the divide. What a disgusting position to have to lien on in order to support your agenda!

Of course, the pro-Life folks, and I am one, have for the most part allowed the Left to beat them about the head and shoulders with this issue... losing both politically AND failing to save babies...
but there is a fresh movement afoot in the "pro-life" community... people that reject the politization of abortion, that reject using government force on women and physicians, and instead are using a practical approach to save the lives of the unborn one woman at a time by giving them the help, resources, and support that they need... and I am THRILLED to see it.

And yes, I see the slippery slope of Moral Hazard here... that those resources will only continue to enable people to engage in irresponsible behavior... yet I think this is one of those "one foot in front of the other" efforts.

To LIFE!

Hopefully, we can rid ourselves of them before they become really dangerous. You may be proud of them, but personally, the scare me to death. I'm a wary of the RINO's too. The end does not justify the means. There do exist natural right and wrong. When we lose sight of them, we lose all.

The Constitution is the guiding document for government and law in the US. There are legal ways to change it, as necessary. It is flawed, as are all human creations, but it is what the American people signed up for when the country was founded. It is certainly one of the greatest codification of human rights into law in human history. To ignore it for the sake of expediency it is simply an act of lawlessness and tyranny. No good can come of it.

Carbon-ation,

The fact the US was created in its present form where we DO limit government hugely and DO assume people are innocent first is a shock to me even now.

Can you imagine starting the U.S. fresh, in an occupied land with people that have been there a thousand years? There is no way, today, that the US could be created and survive anywhere on Earth in its present form. Not with all the special interests we have today. Pretty amazing.

Stop being a nervous nelly "gold bug" worrying about jackboots breaking down your door. Ain't happened yet. You know how much paperwork that requires????

And as for Jeffers, I have better things to do than "governmentally oppress" him and your fellow Libertarians who "think they can do better just by themselves," as 1,000 years of human history shows that all the non-white males of the world (blacks, Hispanics, women, handicapped, children, etc., etc.) need (government) help sometimes. White males sometimes too.

Even fathead Libertarians standing on the top of their barn demanding to be rescued from rising flood waters after having told the media they "don't need anyone's help" deserve govt. assistance. :)

Frankly, I have better things to do than come to all of your rescues when you get in over your heads anyway. You don't pay enough taxes for all the money you underpaying bloodsuckers cost! :)

Wow!

I mean, Wow!

Just this past week police stormed into a family's home in a suburb of Boston and blasted a grandfather to death because he happened to be in the home when they were conducting a drug raid having something possibly to do with the guy's stepson.

http://www.necn.com/01/06/11/Family-wants-answers-after-police-shooti/landing.html?blockID=385988&feedID=4206

And that's just the only occurrence of "jackboots" kicking down somebody's door I came across this past week. There have been TONS of such stories of government violently intruding into people's homes and businesses, shooting and killing people first and asking questions later for all kinds of reasons from kids selling drugs to a guy selling unpasteurized apple cider.

I just wish the government agents all around us here would stop lying! They're loathsome, despicable creatures every one of them!

Bur,

Your comments about the constitution are uniformed at the best. I admit the constitution is not an infallible document, thus the amendment process. The problem I see with your argument is that you bring up things like the 3/5 you contradict yourself; when the constitution was amended they gave the same rights to the new citizens. In short they just expanded who had the inalienable rights. The rights were still understood to be the result of our natural rights as delegated by god and understood by reason. I fail to see how anyone could possibly want to throw aside the checks and balances that the document so tediously promotes. What possible benefit could we receive from this? Do you really want no recourse against your government? The constitution was a limit on what the government could do, not a secular humanist document like the communist manifesto. The problem with all humanist documents is that you can never truly give the promise you make, the constitution gives you the ability to make you own life by ensuring the rule of law. The most important part of the constitution was the understanding that we have the right to property, that the government was not our God and Master.
Here are 10 planks of communisms and you tell me where you disagree. I don’t call you a commie for nothing. Here is ole karl’s ideas on how to destroy capitalism.
1. Abolition of private property and the application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communications and transportation in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state, the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries, gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of population over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.(notice just want to turn them in government factory slaves)

For instance, while too many believe we are running out of oil, I have given examples of us having lots of oil, so far (EIA data, all gas stations filled and open, news reports of tankers sitting on UK and Signapore coasts filled to the brim).

If you wanna believe that the government is coming for you all, and is your enemy, and the Constituion is at all times the word of God, there's not much I can do. If you open your eyes and "be an investor" and see both sides of the issue, I think you'll sometimes see diffently. :)

We have plenty of rice, and corn products in the supermarkets here. Yet a worldwide shortage. A true investor would never ignore information on those commodities. Especially one who lives among the production area of said commodity. The same with oil and yet for someone who has "skin in the game" he brushes off pertinent information that has shown results.

As a so called government employee he has limited knowledge of exactly where his department budget funds come from. From the salary range he constantly tries to claim he would not only know where the budget comes from but more than likely be part of the process.

He is a troll plain and simple. A good troll, but over the course of time he has painted himself into a corner with his contradictions.
