"Dismantling the old economy"

"Dismantling the old economy is going to be the basis for the new economy for quite a while." Dmitri Orlov

Rather than watch an hour of T.V., I highly recommend listening to the genius that is Dmitri Orlov...

I can't help thinking about how perfectly Orlov's forecasts have dovetailed with my previous post.

Ah, don't forget agriculture, which could replace the FIRE ecomomy for the next 30 years, as food prices rise due to baby boomer farmers retiring and the increased costs for diesel and fertilizer, made using natgas.

Greg,
I "chat" with Mr. Orlov once in a while on Gmail chat- he's amazingly humble, so far... and somewhat eccentric. He lives in a sailboat and plans to just sail away from collapse, after all. But he recognizes the importance of community and human bonds in dealing with what is transpiring.
He seems a little more down-to-earth than Kunstler (who I still like).

For some odd reason, most women (e.g. my wife) do not seem to like Orlov's writing style... his irony and sarcasm really rubs some people the wrong way.
People like me (and you?) who have a similar sense of, use of, and appreciation for, heavy irony and black humor seem to love him.

I believe that I met him at Charleston Harbor last year. I say "believe" because we were not properly introduced, and I only figured out that is was probably him some time later...

Unless there is another guy that stays on sailboat in Charleston but is from Boston and is really, really eccentric... could be...

Anyway, I find his ideas original and interesting, and I think that young people in particular should spend some time listening to this man.
