Thank You, Veterans

I want to say THANK YOU to all our American Veterans.

I want to say how disappointed I am in the American Body Politic.  Those serving in our military did not do so to maintain your position or the position of your "special interests".  I'd be willing to wager they did not risk life and limb, and many LOST life and limb, so that the political class could pander for votes and destroy the Republic from within.

If I had the power to express my thanks to you Veterans, I would do so by bringing our military personnel home from around the globe and reuniting them with their families.  Unfortunately, I am a powerless blogger shouting into the wind of the Internet... but you will always have my sincere thanks.

Greg,

Your are the second person today to say that. My six year old son said thank you this morning to ME. Those words are remembered forever. Thank you!

I don't want to say "THANK YOU" to Jimmy Carter and George 'Herbert Hoover' Bush; both are American Veterans. I am sure there are other American Veterans who also should not be thanked.

As a veteran of the US Army from 1969 to 1971, 3 months short of three years, a draft induced enlistee to avoid the infantry in Viet Nam, I can say I am so tired of all this "thank you' BS. My time was a total waste of almost three years of my life and a lot of government mondy.
The same crap is going on today.
As I said frequently at the time, I believe in social welfare services, the Defense (War) Department is just a poor way to administer them.
We have never demobilized from WW2 because the corporate jocks saw what a cash cow the military could be.
From Cold War to GWOT, it's all been ginned up to make corporate money.
All the patriotic jingo stuff is just to keep the rubes in line and paying the bill.

Being in the service for one enlistment period does not make you a veteran. I spent five years enlisted and then another ten years inactive as a reserve officer and wasn't even called up for the first Iraq war. I am NOT a Veteran.

Veteran's day is about those who served in combat whether that's the current PC way of looking at it or not. Sure some get veteran status simply for being in theater or being in the service during a wartime footing but they shouldn't.

If you ask me the liberal, lefty, progressives are the ones pushing for the new American police force more than the libertarian/conservatives.

Seem to have touched a nerve here... I merely wanted to acknowledge the contribution by the individual...

BTW Pioneer.... I knew that you were a reserve officer but I did not know you also did an enlistment stint.

You have a lot of interesting experiences.

Rational:

And I do think that the military wastes ENORMOUS amounts of money, but that is going to be resolved one way or another

My dad spent 1941 - 1945 in the navy. He would not call himself a veteran because he never saw combat. His ship was struck by an unarmed US torpedo during an exercise, however.
