I Knew Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton was a friend of Mine...

Barak Obama is no Bill Clinton.

Obama might be the consummate orator.  Bill Clinton was the consummate politician (like him or not).  Obama's first month showed just how "green" (as in inexperienced) he is.  Clinton knew which way the political winds were blowing and how to triangulate his own party AND the opposition to his benefit.  Obama has been run over by Speaker Botox and Majority Leader Limp (fill in the blank), and his tacking between the sandwich board with the tag line "The End is NEAR" and last night's rah-rah shows clearly the liability of electing a "community organizer" with 4 years of Senate experience to the White House.

Obama's campaign was brilliant.  So far his governing is lacking in that department.  I sincerely hope he finds his way - and soon.

It isn't going to matter. Obama was a cry for help, as I said. We'll see if he listens better and actually "changes" to allowing businesses to fail. But this is all kind of unfair to compare, as Reagan, The Bushes, Clinton and Margaret Thatcher all had cheap oil to neutralize a lot of their problems. Obama will not be as lucky in that way later in his term.

How true on the cheap oil thing...

Still, I was speaking about the number of power players in WASH DC, it is not just the president. And just because they might belong to the same party DOES NOT mean they are on the same team or have the same interests. Most president's biggest battles are with and within their own cabinet.

Clinton understood this better than any president of 20th Century.

Obama has no experience in POLITICS; "brilliant" or no, his skill set lies elsewhere. He may yet find his way, I just hope it is soon.

Besides, I just can't help myself. After sitting through the campaign and listening to Obamaphiiles gush about his blue tights and red cape I just have to have a little fun....

Fun? There's no fun when Chicago politics takes over the building...

Please check out the link above. When I called my family in Chicago to inquire about some of those facts, they turned out to be all too true.

Obama isn't going to fix anything. My fear is that he will make it that much worse. Once again the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Thanks again Greg.

There is an alternative view about Obama's political skills. The best promoter of this view is Al Giordano. His response to the SOTU speech is
"About Last Night: The Shock Doctrine Reversed". In particular, I call your attention to his discussion beginning in the sixth paragraph, which starts with "Regarding health care", where he explains how Obama intends to make an end run around Republican opposition to health care reform. If Giordano is correct about this, then Obama is likely to succeed in a key area where the Clintons failed 16 years ago.

And by the way, Obama's campaign was anything but brilliant. He was the right guy at the right time .. nothing more. Positioned as something different (not white) in the horrible economic situation now unfolding. He was a cry for help. He wouldn't have emphasized his experience even if he had any. He has acted like a lawyer family-man: soft spoken, kumbayah, messiah, by the book, everyone come together, we can solve probs if we work together, etc. But now the reality we find ourselves in is that -- nothing has indeed changed even now. The black community sees him as their "Jesus incarnate" even tho it is the hispanics that own the next 25 years (they like having kids). This idea that democrats and republicans can come together and find middle ground was wishful-thinking at best. And while I hope for less racism, once things start getting really bad economically, all those latent stereotypes will explode. He won, and I'm glad he won. But he is starting to look hopelessly middle-class naive.
